Course Introduction

Working from home has become commonplace and this has thrown up new challenges for those more used to working in an office environment. There are several challenges that we face to ensure working from home is as effective and safe as office based work. This is important for hybrid workers and those who work from home more permanently.

Some of the key things to consider for those working from home are – personal wellbeing, health & safety, ergonomics, workspace setup, information security, teamworking, online meetings and finally, the social aspect of working at home.

  • Identify key areas that should be considered when making information secure in a home working environment
  • Review areas where you may have been unaware of potential information security risks.​
Module 5 – Setting up your Workspace
  • Identify areas where they can improve their home working environment
  • Understand the importance of having a good chair
  • Review alternative ways of improving internet connections over Wi-Fi​
Module 6 – Working Together - Apart
  • Review some of the lessons we can learn from geese about teamwork
  • Explore the problems that can occur from using different messaging options and describe a solution
  • Understand how to make a video conference call more inclusive
  • Identify why expressing opinions as facts can be problematic
  • Establish how ‘I’ statements work
  • Examine a possible team building activity for a distributed team.
Module 7 – Online Meetings
  • Explore things that can make online meetings more successful including:
  • a clear agenda
  • participants taking on different roles
  • participants only attending meetings where they’re needed
  • taking steps to make them inclusive.
  • Review four tips for more effective online meetings.
Module 8 – Wellness and Wellbeing
  • Identify what is meant by the term wellness
  • Review the six dimensions of wellness
  • Understand how motivation can be maintained
  • Examine areas where the learner could develop to improve their wellness.​
Module 9 – Re-imagining the Social Element of Work
  • Explore some of the challenges people face in working towards a new normal
  • Review examples of:
  • replacing the social element of work online
  • new ways to replace social interaction away from work.
  • Establish why trust is important when socialising.
Module 10 – Assessment and CPD certificate
  • A chance to test your knowledge of the topic with scoring
